Home button not working after screen replacement

Hi, so I know this is a commonly asked question, but I can’t find anything like my situation. I got a replacement 6s screen a while ago, installed it fine, didn’t rip any cables or anything, the only thing I noticed was that the home button was really loose and would shift around a lot. I reconnected everything correctly, but I didn’t snap in the clips holding the screen down because I wanted to make sure it worked. The LCD issues were fixed, but the home button was very finicky and would only work about half the time or when I held it down for a few seconds. After trying it for a while it just stopped responding at all. I disconnected the battery, digitizer cables, etc. to make sure everything was good, and it seemed totally normal. Now I don’t know what to do. Please help me out, thanks. I never had Touch ID enabled so I don’t know if that works.

Update: Know how I said the clips weren’t in yet? Well, of course because of that the screen wasn’t lined up quite right with the phone. I lined it up and got the home button to work after a few tries. It’s completely random, it will go from not working at all to 5 minutes later fully working. This indicates to me that @misternerd was right about the gasket being loose. I’ll get a replacement ASAP.

I’d always help a stuck user on a repair!

The rubber gasket being missing shouldn't stop the home button from working but it will feel quite flimsy without it.

I'm leaning more towards a worn out home button clicker (the little plastic black dot under the home button) or a home button connector on the screen itself.

Interesting. Do you think though that I could use the gasket from the iPhone 6 that I mentioned to try that method before I replace the clicker and or connector? This probably sounds kind of dumb to you, but the home button clicks fine so I don’t know if that would indicate the clicker was okay. It’s just it shifts around a lot and when I click it half the time I get no response.

I don’t think so, gaskets on the iPhone 6 and 6s are glued and when you take it off, the adhesive gets damaged and won’t stick. The reason I mentioned replacing the gasket was because it can cause the button to move around and damaged the cable and that’s where I thought that the button moved around and was ripped.

Might be a home button gasket loose, or the home button cable might be loose, you can buy a gasket here: iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Home Button Gasket Without replacing the gasket, the home button will feel loose and that might have ripped the cable. Open it up and check the cable, if it is the gasket, you can replace it easily.

Very possible, for an unrelated reason I actually had to remove the gasket and put it back on, so I doubt it’s any good. I checked and the cable is intact and plugged in. I planned to replace the gasket anyway, right now I’m just trying to get the home button to work so that I can put it in DFU restore mode and factory reset it. Just a question, I have 2 iPhone 6 home buttons/gaskets lying around, one from a water damaged phone and one from a phone with a fried motherboard, do you think the gaskets from them would be able to be transferred to this 6s?

To clarify is the screen right now not turning on? If yes try shining a flashlight to the screen to see if there is a dim apple logo appearing when you reseat the battery connector and then the phone on.

Note that if the screen connectors were touched while the battery was still plugged in this can cause the backlight circuit to blow.

If that is the case the phone will need to be taken to a local reputable phone repair shop that does board repairs to fix the backlight circuit.

The screen works perfectly, the only issue is with the home button.
