iPhone XR Boot loop after water damage

I put too much trust in a lifeproof case and ended up with fresh water damage from a waterfall. I have the device disassembled and it doesn’t look too bad inside. There was a little corrosion on the taptic module, but otherwise all connectors look clean. The device powers on, shows the apple logo, goes black, and repeats. I can do a hard power off, put the device into recovery mode, and dfu mode. The computer will recognize the device and I have already tried to do a full restore to factory. It still behaves the same. Where do I go next?

My guess is the battery needs to be replaced

Have you tried it with just the lcd connected, no cameras etc. Could also be a screen issue. Remember the logic board is 2 seperate pcbs soldered together and you would only see damage when they are seperate.

I screwed up with disassembly and damaged the original lcd, so the lcd is new. I have not tried with just the lcd connected.

I watched a video where they separated the logic board and replaced the ic chip. The example phone in the video was exhibiting similar behavior. I can solder but have no experience with this kind of soldering and the equipment looks expensive.

I gave up for a while, but am back. Fortunately I've been able to isolate this somewhat but am still stumped. I can get the phone to boot if the long connector that's above the battery connector isn't plugged in. Anybody know what's at the other end of this connector? Seems like taptic, speaker, and charge port are maybe at the other end? Looking through the parts, it seems this is the lightening connector assembly. Any further troubleshooting, or should I just replace the assembly?

The taptic module, and lower speaker are not connected and are out of the equation. The phone will charge, and I can get it into recovery mode and reset the device to factory settings with itunes. After resetting though, it will just boot loop. No lightening cable plugged into the logic board, and it boots.

It is a charging port assembly, just replace it. From what you said a charging port replace will solve it, it is cheap, about $5 - $10.

I replaced the lightening port assembly. Cost me a lot more than $5-10 though. More like $40 from ifixit. I guess that's the price you pay sometimes for not shopping around. At least it's working again.

I had the dame issues with XR and believe that the charging port at the bottom of the phone was compromised by salt water and or heavy moisture. Moisture builds up and corrodes the charging pins. These then form a circuit and cause a short. The short will cause damage to internal circuitry and cause the phone to go into a hostile mode and do repeated power loops to try to disable the glitch caused by the short. So, I used a micro nail file to clean the connection point. Then I did a Forced Reboot. It was all fixed. :)
