Does the question poster mean that if the trigger is held, and the nose is bumped repeatedly to a workpiece, it only drives the first nail? This activity is called "Bump mode". The tool has a two-position trigger switch knob on one side of the trigger. The knob is set to point to sequential fire (indicated by a single nail) or bump fire (indicated by three nails) embossed on the housing.

If the selection knob is properly set and selects both modes, and the nailer fires correctly only in sequential mode, the selection knob mechanism should be inspected or disassembled for improper assembly or excess wear.

Alternately, if the nail feed mechanism fails to feed the next nail each time, the nailer will keep firing "blank" shots without driving the second and following nails.
