MY LG LRSC2031T Freezer stopped working

MY LG LRSC2031T Freezer stopped working. Then the refrigerator started working. A tech came an looked at it and said the wattave was running too high at 220 Watts. He said it wasn't worth fixing. Charged my wife $80 for that check. He said a person who does "seal system" would be able to fix it. Well when I got home I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it started to work. But then a day later it wan't as cool as the night before. I vacuumed and cleaned the coils. I don't want to spend $3K on another refrigerator If I don't have to. All of the comments above have been helpful.

Drpang1-sounds like the tech didn’t give you much of a diagnosis. If the problem is in the sealed system such as a leak, restriction, compressor, evaporator, condenser problem, the repair must be done by a certified refrigeration technician. Also, the parts are usually covered under the manufacture warranty for maybe 7-10 years. Contact LG.

Thanks LadyTEch! I plugged it in after it died to see what would happen. It stayed cool for a day and then it died again. Could it be the board since it cools but then goes warm. The lights go on and the fan is blowing.

Drpang1- im going by what the tech said, it was in the sealed system. You say the fans are running, is the compressor running? Is the compressor cool, warm or hot? Same for condenser coils? When I replace the compressor I usually replace the board also. There are so many revisions made to those boards that it’s just practical to replaced at the same time. Also, it takes about 48 hrs for a warm refrigerator to reach its set temperature. If your coils were dirty, chances are that is what caused your problem to begin with. Dirty coils cause the condenser and compressor to run hotter than they should. This heat causes issues with the refrigerant/gas. The heat will cause a lot of issues such as a leak in the copper tubing, restrictions due to moisture entering the system, and more. Keeping the coils clean is very important. It’s just like changing the oil in your car. It’s vital. Your owner manual explains how often the coils should be clean and if you have inside pets, to clean more often.
