The tripod mounting hole or tripod thread, has cracked in the camera and isn't very usable anymore. It cracked probably due to the fact it was plastic, is there any way i could add a new one/replace the damaged one?

That's a good solution that I'd consider, but how do I fix one of these into the camera? Do I need to remove the old tripod socket? Keeping in mind, it's plastic.
