Screen not turning on

I have power, keyboard LED's are on but my screen remains black, once in a while, the screen does come back alive for maybe a few seconds, a minute tops before it goes black again.

It works fine when connected to my external monitor via HDMI, as in I can use the device BUT the screen remains black.

Why is this happening and how do I fix it?
