touchbar not working after battery replacement

hey

i hope someone can help:

i changed the battery on my mbp 2017 15”. did it with the ifixit guide und battery. auto boot has been switched off prior to the repair.i already tried the smc rest and pram reset shortcuts etc.

Everything powers on, but the touch bar wont come to life. i have reconnected the touch bar display and digitizer cables carefully. I have never bent them hard during the process, the were otherwise untouched. the contacts look fine, cleaned everything with air. i have redone the whole procedure carefully - it still does not power on. The Touch Bar is not shown in the keyboard menu and there is no Touch Bar process to pkill.. So I guess its not communicating / seems to not be connected even though the cables are connected just fine..

Before exchanging the battery everything worked properly. I changed the battery because it was not holding a charge for more that one or two hours and had been used daily for the past 3,5 years.

any ideas how to solve this?

You'll need to get a USB-C power meter to monitor the power. You likely have a bad charging chip

I know is an old post but a lot of people including me have this problem. To solve this problem, I tried all sorts of things. knowing that I was very careful when I changed the battery and keyboard, so I ruled out that the problem was a physical one. I knew from the beginning that it was software. So, I discovered that if you watch youtube in full screen mode until the battery is completely discharged and then you charge it, after about 30 minutes you turn it on the MacBook , but it must be plugged in charger, you will have a pleasant surprise , your touchbar has started and will work without any problems.

I got a $60 battery on Amazon, works great, but my TouchBar won't function. It's seen in System Information, but I can't seem to jumpstart the ControlStrip. I've tried everything - resetting SMC, NVRAM, PRAM, disabled autoboot and checked all the connectors internally, I got nothing. I'll try the drain trick and see if that works. @ifixit is this product the only way to get it going again? MacBook Pro 13" Retina (A1989, A2251) Battery

@brandoncar72889 - The easier way is just disconnecting the battery and press and hold the power button for a good 15sec to fully drain the logic board.

Sadly, I doubt that will fix this. Apple walked away from the TouchBar as the truth is they tend to fail! Either by hard presses/banging on them, something wedged when the lid is closed between or dropped on it, or lastly during a battery upgrade as you tend to pull/pry on the battery which causes the case to flex which in turn damages the TouchBar screen from the back side.

Was your Mac functioning OK except for a weak battery before you replaced it?

Can you power the laptop on with the battery disconnected?

hey, yes it was working normally before. I have updated my thread as I managed to power it on but now the Touch Bar is not working. best, jan

Is the battery you bought original? Try reinstalling the old battery temporarily to see if you have full functionality again. If so, The battery is to blame. Cheap and poorly manufactured batteries can cause havoc with the SMC and cause a multitude of issues. The SMC and power management are very closely related to each other. I have seen MacBooks grind to a halt with the beachball of death and the battery was to blame.

@janeric - Try resetting the NVRAM Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac You may also need to reset the Touch bar logic Mac: How to fix and restart the Touch Bar when it stops working

@duvelhedz it is the "original" bought here from ifixit. I will give it a try an connect the old battery to see what happens ! thanks!
