Dropped my iPad Air 4the Gen square on the Touch ID button and it will not recognize fingerprints any longer. Not finding a replacement part for this item. How can I get this fixed?

I am having issues actually finding a replacement button. The button itself is cracked and piece broke off. Any suggestions there?

May just have to bit the bullet and take it to apple.

You can find these on ebay

Touch ID is one of the hardest things to restore. I am not sure about iPads but there are programming tools such as the JCID that can copy the codes that pair your button to the logic board, then write them to a new home button. This should do the trick in getting a replacement home button’s full functionality back.

Most components in apple products are paired with the logic board and either stop working or disable features after the pair component is changed. Again there are programming tools, I use the JC V1S myself on iPhone repairs, but I have not looked into iPad programmers.

Hope this helps :)

Almost! The original button needs to be readable! Often they aren't after being damaged.

Best to take it to an Apple Store and let them fix it as they have the magic tools to do it.

Fixed many a home button, even cracked ones, if the flex is good and the damage is to the outer layers there's a high chance of it working. Plus who doesn't want a JCID device to play with XD

@eazy_pc_repairs - What can I say you have the skills! ;-} Most DIY don't ;-{

@danj It honestly, for some weird reason, never crossed my mind that a high percentage of posters are not professionals who do this day in, day out :)

I have the same problem! But I don't need Touch ID at all, it's just that the button warms up very much, despite the fact that I disabled Touch ID! Is it possible to programmatically disable the Touch ID function completely or physically disable it, but to make the power button work? @eazy_pc_repairs

Took my iPad Air 4th gen in today to a repair store. My problems were bent frame resembling a ~ , cracked glass, lcd was OK, power/Touch ID sensor was cracked and broken as well as getting extremely hot to the touch. All said and done I was quoted $125. This is to replace the power/Touch ID sensor unbend the frame and apply a clear zag protective restorative film to mend the cracked glass as well as re-seat and re glue and make it resistant to further damage. All in all not bad imo. Thanks for reading.

Unfortunately Touch ID is paired to the iPad Air like with most apple devices unfortunately even if you were to replace Touch ID button yourself it still wouldn’t work because it wouldn’t be paired the only way to do this is with special tools only apple authorized repair centers have
