My trouble also started with replacing the fan to no avail until I saw this VJS14 discussion which I took to a computer workshop that specializes in VAIO repairs.
First, the conclusion: VJS13 fuse is located on the back of the motherboard.
I called the workshop and they said, “You can replace it yourself, the material is easy to buy.” I said, “I don't know the material specification, so please do it for me”.
When I arrived at the workshop, they didn't say anything, they just asked, “What do you want us to do? What do you want us to do for you?” I told them about the automatic shutdown and how I had to repair it myself, mentioning the key word “the fuse”.
“Do you know where the fuse is?” “I compared it with a foreign forum, and it's not the same as my model, so I don't know where my fuse is located” I said. “You don't know where the fuse is located?” “Uh-huh, plus I don't know the specs, and the component is tiny, I think it should be machined by a professional.”
“You need me to change your fuse, don't you?” he said. He thought for a moment, and he began to silently help me take it all apart. He even removed the motherboard and moved it to another higher level workbench, and in no time at all he had it replaced and powered up for testing.
He handed me my VJS13 for confirmation. I asked, “Is that all it takes to fix it?” He said “I'm not the one to decide if it's fixed or not, so to avoid any dispute, please confirm it yourself”.
Luckily, I can disassemble computers, cell phones, TVs, and headphones, so I spent some time in the workshop with my laptop, and observed that the fan was activated when necessary. Done!
Then I took the opportunity to chat with him to find out why his conversations with me were so conservative and uninformative.
He said he only gave me a little help, “because the repair of computers, after all, will involve the repair industry rules, if there is no inspection and repair process, after the delivery of repair quotes these processes, which is tantamount to destroying the maintenance industry domain Know How.” So he “only help to replace the components,” and I only learned from him that the fuse of the VJS13 is on the back.
“Just go ahead and talk about it on the forums and pretend I haven't seen your customer today and I didn't take your case before I get in trouble”.
What can I say? Workshops have their difficulties.
BTW, I'm in TAIWAN.
