Vizio D 650i-c3 picture distortion

Image is distorted, with all lines/edges being grainy and color being completely incorrect. See images.

TV was brought to me after it had no power. Tested and the main board had a short and the processor under the heat sink overheated, burning the PCB.

ShopJimmy is out of stock for my board (https://www.shopjimmy.com/vizio-y8386526...) so I went to ebay. Double triple checked the exact part number printed directly on the PCB before ordering, match, and before installing, match. Installed it, and successfully powered on but image looks like this.

Also of note is that the board thinks it's a D70-D3, but the TV is a D650i-c3.

I'm guessing one of two things is the cause:

1: Vizio uses the same board with different firmware for different models, but the firmware is incompatible with the t-con. In which case finding the firmware and updating the TV could fix this. If no such change is possible, finding a same board that came from the same model would be the only solution.

2: The main board was fried after a power surge, which also fried the T-con board and replacing that could fix this. This is evidenced by the TV having some burned out LEDs that make the screen partially dark, despite no such issue being known before the no power issue.

If anyone has seen this issue before and can clarify which of these two possibilities (or something else I haven't considered) it would be appreciated.

@erelectronics both of these are a possibility. "Vizio uses the same board with different firmware for different models, but the firmware is incompatible with the t-con. In which case finding the firmware and updating the TV could fix this" If no such change is possible, finding a same board that came from the same model would be the only solution.

"The main board was fried after a power surge, which also fried the T-con board and replacing that could fix this" double vision etc. is commonly a fault on the t-con board, it might be possible that this is the same with the abnormality on your screen.

If this screen has burned out LEDs that it did not have before, then the issue may have been overvoltage. All of that comes from the power board. It should not affect the "clarity" of the screen. Double check the voltages going from the power board to the mainboard. Compare those with the voltages printed on the board.

I believe that firmware updates for Vizio are done via settings and network. Should be Menu > System > System Info > Scroll to bottom of Information screen> Service Check. Leave it for awhile and if there is an update available it may do those. There are no manual updates. I wonder. If you still have the old main board, look for the IC's and see if you can identify them. I wonder if this board uses some sort of EEPROM where it keeps the settings for the board etc. If so, switch it over from your old board to the new board. Then see if it identifies properly. Going to be tedious since you will need to look through the IC's and then find a datasheet etc.

Never mind :-) I just realized this question is a year old. By now, you hopefully have it fixed already or you properly recycled/reused it :-)

Hey there friend. This TV was in my shop over a year ago now. 😂

I can't honestly say what the resolution was but it is long gone from my shop. I do believe I was able to successfully fix this, but this was (iirc) my first time using the forums here, and after getting no response I forgot to come back and update.

I'm going to mark you as accepted answer just to close this question, but for future readers, I do not know what, if anything, in OldTurkey's message is the correct answer for this dilemma.
