beginner tips on soldering please?

Hi

Soldering is loads of fun(in my opinion) and I got good at it just by playing around and trying new things

Here’s some tips!

1)practice on other broken things

2)use a quality solder,flux and iron:in my opinion it’s much harder to learn if you are using tools that don’t do the job properly so make sure you are using stuff from reputable brands or places that have a good reputation like iFixit,Amtech,hakko and lots of other brands

3)practice regularly:just like everything else Practice makes perfect,most people come up with techniques that work for them as most of the time there isn’t a wrong way of doing it as long as it works

4)if you get stuck ask plenty of questions!:there’s nothing worse than being stuck with no help so always look on forums ,YouTube and here on iFixit

5)don’t breath in the fumes!!!!:flux fumes aren’t good for you so use a extraction filter,mask or do it outside to prevent breathing in these harmful fumes

6)Watch for tips:Watch people like Lewis Rossmann,NorthRidgeFix and much more:these people are amazing at what they do and are open to share of amazing tips

7)keep your tip clean:make sure to tin your tip and keep it shiny as it will transfer heat much better this way as if it’s dull and not shiny it won’t transfer heat well which will increase the chances of a cold joint
