Laptop: weird damage after falling

Hello!

First of all, I’d like to say that I’ve found already many useful guides on this forum and I’d like to thank everyone!

This time I’ve decided to write a post, as I have a bit peculiar situation with my laptop, which has recently fallen down and seems to have gotten damaged.

The laptop unfortunately fell from approx. 1.5m. After the fall, the screen was still displaying image, but the image was stuck. I force shut it down and when I turned it back on, the screen was not displaying anything anymore (not even the backlight turned on). I visualy inspected all internal parts to check whether any of them were in any way damaged, or if any connectors were loose. Everything seemed fine. Also the screen seems perfectly fine. I tested the hard drive on another computer and it works fine. However, still after turning the laptop on, the screen is not responding. Alongside that, the fan is acting funny, turning repeatedly on and off in the first 20 seconds after turning the laptop on and then starts cooling fully (not sure if this is normal fan behaviour). The flight mode indicator light gets turned on, but the hard disk reading indicator light does not flicker like it usually does.

After disconnecting the screen’s connector and connecting the laptop to an external screen there was still no image.

What could be the underlying issue for these problems?

Thank you a lot in advance for every kind answer and help.

Attaching image of the board. The screen’s cable is intentionally disconnected to allow getting a clearer picture.

Hi,

Thanks a lot oldturkey03 for the fast response! I tried disconnecting internal display and connecting the laptop to an external screen and it’s not working.

I will attach photo of the board. By a visual inspection nothing seems wrong with the board, but it indeed seems like the problem lies there.

@Manja

Can you get into BIOS OK with a display?

@jayeff

Hi,

Thanks for help.

I can’t get into BIOS.

@Manja

Try disconnecting the HDD and check if you can get into BIOS.

If not it may be that the laptop is not even starting (or not starting properly).

What is the motherboard's make and model number? This should be printed on the board itself.

It looking like you may need the schematics to find out what's happening (or rather what's not happening)

@jayeff

Hi, thanks a lot for the reply.

I figured that the issue is bigger than what I can relatively simply fix, so I took the laptop to a repair shop where they’ll do diagnostics and assess how much it’ll cost to fix it.

Wish me luck :)

Regards,

Manja

Manja this is tricky. Having read this a couple of times, I would consider the screen being the first major problem, I would consider replacing it. The other thing you can try is to connect an external display and try it with the internal display disconnected. See if that changes any of the issues .We really would need to see your boards as well as the connector etc. to try and determine if this is a board issues. 기존 질문에 이미지 추가하기
