LED Off on AC Adapter - Won't Charge

What should I check first?

End of cable that connects to PC? Other end of this same cable connecting to the power supply? The connection where the power supply is connecting to outlet? (Not the cord itself but inside of the supply)

If someone could give me the proper terms, or a better way to describe these items I'd appreciate it!

I just acquired this AC adapter and quickly realized the LED indicator on the unit would not light up when plugged in.

I removed the case for power supply, did some wiggling and when I plugged it back in the LED indicator came on.

After doing this, I attempted to plug it into the PC. Shortly thereafter the LED went off again. I did not initially notice that the end that connected to the PC had seeming exposed wire (looked like tubing got pushed back).

Could the AC Cable Adapter Outlet (How to Repair a Frayed Dell AC Adapter Cable) result in the LED not lighting up on the power supply?

Supleh2, yes, it is possible that this is the reason for the LED not lighting up. It is possible that you have some wire on the outlet side that is either loose or bare and creating a short circuit. You can try and expose the wire further and use a multi/voltmeter to see what the output is. I would expose the wire further, cut it back , and either solder the old connector on it, or get a new connector. Besides the great instructions you already have, there are some good instructions on here as well. Hope this helps, good luck.

I add the same problem. It turn out the connection inside the adaptor to the lower voltage side is very prone to short circuit. I broke open the adaptor no screw, probably snaps or glue, and I cut the plastic protector of the low voltage wire. Inside, there where signs of short circuit. A bit of electric tape, and I work like new, like I said, it is not as pretty as is was, but it work.

The case halves of the Psu are either glued or more likely ultrasonically welded together dell would argue this is for safety as there are no user serviceable parts inside. Maybe they should in that case have made the low voltage side either more robust or added a connector

The dell power connector is held in place by narrow flanges. It is easy to break one side or both and this causes the power connector to move enough to sometimes connect and frequently stop connecting. If the laptop is in warranty, contact Dell tech support. If it is out of warranty, find a take apart instruction that matches your laptop and check to see if the power connector is loose in the case.

Another thing that sometimes happens is the power connector gets damaged when the power cable is pulled out at an angle. There should be a black plastic insulator in the middle of the power connector, the insulator protects the inner contact from shorting out on the barrel of the power cable. The power connector is different from each model, although the pin out is the same; so be careful which power connector you get.
