Anyone know where this chip goes?

Hello Forum,

I went into clean my fans and I found this chip floating around inside my mac!!

Had a look on the front and rear of logic board and compared it to the diagrams, but I can't seem to find where the little bugger goes, Does anybody know?

@graintocask that actually looks like a microphone, Apple part number 821-03594-A. Check your flex cable and see if it has come off.

@oldturkey03 - I too thought the same thing, but it doesn’t match up if you look at the MacBook Pro 14" (A2442, A2779) Microphone unless Apple modified this series to a different design.

@danj yes you are right. probably another mod they did not tell anybody about. I am certain that if @graintocask takes a look at it, one of the mics will be missing.

@graintocask the part should be identifiable by the markings on it. Post another picture, but this time zoom into it, so we can make out what it says.

@oldturkey03 -Yup it's from that the serial numbers on the chips match up from an image I found to the rogue one.

Stupid question but whats it for? My mic is still working (at least on whatsapp) find it hard to believe this part is superfluous.

Thanks for your help

@graintocask that is because your MBP actually uses three mics for the same thing. I am not going to call it a spare, but your other ones are most likely "taking up the slack" for the missing one.

@graintocask The microphone flex cable makes use of multiple microphones. So depending on function of the missing one, you may not even notice.
