Black screen of death

Yesterday when I opened my phone I heard a "crack", and now more than half of the screen is completely unresponsive to touch and blacked out. I want to replace the screen myself since i'm pretty sure I'm not eligible for warranty. How should I go about doing that? Or is it better for this model to just take it to a repair shop? Thanks.
