when i turn on the camera it takes a minute to start, and then says hdd error occurred, please turn unit off then turn off again.the camera still lets me go through the menus but it doesnt let me take picture or video, or look at the pictures or videos. i tried multiple different battery and turning it off and on.

It is likely the hard drive failed. Spinning discs don't last forever. You would need a new small hard drive to replace the failed drive.
