Can I fix the keyboard without replacing the Logic Board?

Hey all! I have been working on this Mac for this one customer for a few months now. Every time I get something fixed, something else breaks. First, the Mac gave me a prohibitory sign every time a booted. Then the trackpad stopped working, and now the keyboard is messing up. Turns out with the first issue, the Mac's ROM is slightly messed up, but I was able to loop around it and got the Mac to work. With the trackpad, I had to solder on a new button in order to click. With the keyboard, the customer told me that the space bar stopped working. When I got the Mac again, I found out the space bar, fn, and esc keys have all stopped working. After examining it a bit further, I found out the connector on the logic board seems to be the problem. The keyboard itself is okay, and technically so is the logic board. I was wondering if there is any way to clean the conector or maybe open it up to clean it. The customer doesn't really want to spend a lot of money on a new logic board because this one still works. Any ideas?

It's hard to say what's possible without detailed images of the damaged connector. Replacing those connectors can be pretty difficult. If cleaning it with alcohol and a brush doesn't fix the issue, then it would seem like the next logical step would be a logic board replacement. That being said, the amount of work going into this device might not be worth it since it's a 2011 (a refurbished newer device may cost you less than the amount it costs to repair this one). Good luck!

@zpl - I kind of figured that. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I didn't know before I took that action. Thanks for your help!

@jadonlyon and just in case you want to replace the connector, it is a FF14-30A-R11B-B-3H and it is available at multiple places like this Example only and not an endorsement for the seller.

With some research you might even find out which pin is responsible for the failing characters. Might be useful just in case you have a bad pin etc.

@oldturkey03 - This is useful. Thanks for the insight! Unfortunately desoldering old connectors and soldering new ones is beyond my intelligence. I wish I new more about how to do stuff like this. But I will still see if my conector is salvageable. Thanks for the insight!
