Problem staying on after screen replacement

I replaced the screen of my partner's note 10 pro after she destroyed the OLED screen by immersing it in water.

When I put the whole thing together it seemed to be working fine, but shortly my partner complained it would not turn on, and I spent some time fiddling with it, seeing occasional yellow flashes when the power button was pressed or a charging cable was attached.

I dissassembled it again, and found that it works fine when the screen is plugged in alongside the phone.

When I connect the screen in the correct location, with the ribbon through the board, touching the screen on the right near the bottom 5th of the screen causes the screen to go suddenly black. It comes back by pressing the power button twice, and it appears that touches in the meantime are registered as it doesn't always come back in the same state, and has instead opened an app or changed to a different "desktop"

I'm wondering whether it is shorting out or something. Perhaps the tape on the back of the screen is not in quite the right location.

Does anyone have any ideas, or has experienced this kind of thing before?

I've found that inserting a sheet of paper between the phone body and the screen to separate the electronics at the base of the screen from the midplate of the phone. This appears to work. However, I am not enthusiastic about inserting something like paper into the phone on a long term basis. Does anyone have any suggestions for any other suitable insulator, or can tell me why this is a really really bad idea that will destroy the phone and make it catch fire etc.?

So I've fitted a thin sheet of plastic film between the midplate and the screen, which improved the problem, but has thrown up a tiny detail that I didn't pick up before. There appears to be a mismatch between the old broken screen and the new screen. There was evidence of a contact point between the electronics on the back of the screen that had pinched the film and showed a tiny distortion. Careful comparison of the old screen and the new screen showed a slightly thicker chip on the new screen. I also saw a single letter difference in the part number which I'm bummed about not seeing before.

I think that if the screen fit a little better then the problem will go away. I'm inclined to modify the midplate to increase the space for the chip on the new board. I'll post more here with an update, but I'd still welcome any smart phone expert opinions!
