Did the device sustain any physical damage (water, being dropped, etc)? If so, there's a chance something broke on the inside.

nothing spilled or dropped, just quit
That's odd. If you're certain nothing broke on it, I'd advise checking whatever cable(s) handle your keyboard's connection to your laptop's mainboard.
