Repair guides and support for LED, LCD, HD and other Vizio TVs.

Is Power Board the culprit?

I have a Vizio M 65 – E0 LED TV. It suddenly stopped turning on a few days ago. The standby light is also off.

I tested the outlet and power cord, which both worked. I took the back off the TV and could not see any obvious signs of damage to the power board (discoloration or damage). When you attach the power cord to the television, one of the items on the power board makes a clicking sound, which I believe was always the case.

If I’m not sure what the problem is, is replacing the power board the best first step to try to repair?

I am no TV expert, but it sounds like you're on the right track. The click is just a one time click? Or repeating?

One time clicks are usual relays which is just a switch basically. Repeat clicking could be an issue (either a fault relay, or inductor usually) But if it doesn't power on, replacing the power board sounds like a reasonable next step.

There is a more thorough troubleshooting page for TV Will Not Turn On that may also be of use here.

@mitchjoskeat "The standby light is also off." pretty much a sure thing that this is your power board. There are commonly a couple of fuses on the board but you will have to remove the back cover etc. Once you do that (unplug your TV first!!!!) then discharge the capacitors before touching anything on your boards. Check the fuses and check the board for any damaged components. It will help if you post some good pictures of your boards with your Question. That way we can see what you see.

Don't just replace the boards. Check those first. It is cheaper and creates a whole lot less waste if you only replace what needs to be replaced. Get a multimeter and let's get to work.

Sorry @oldturkey03, I got impatient and ordered the power board before checking back. Unfortunately, installed the new power board and no change. any thoughts on the next step to continue diagnosis?

@mitchjoskeat check the voltages on the power board that connects the main board. See if you have the required voltages from the power board to the mainboard and back :-) Does your main board pwr on have the proper voltage:-)? We will need to see your boards to help you with that. One good thing about you having bought a new board. We know we have a non-well starting point.

The M series from Vizio has a really good picture but the CPU burns very hot and can, after 4-7 years or so, unsolder itself. So the TV starts by being difficult to turn on and it gets worse until it just doesn't turn on at all. A tale tale sign is the white status light in the lower left hand corner will come on and then gradually fade away to nothing. I am not sure that is your problem but it is more common than a bad power supply. If it is, you need to repair the main board or get a used one somewhere with no guarantee that it is not just as old and also ready to crash.
