Why can't I find boot device

Get into the BIOS menus and check if the HDD is being shown as detected by the BIOS > System Configuration > OS boot manager.

Here's how to do this in your laptop.

• Turn on or restart the computer and quickly press f10 – or – turn on or restart the computer, quickly press esc, and then press f10 when the Start menu is displayed.

If there's no HDD shown then it has failed and needs to be replaced.

What is the model number of the laptop as shown on the product information label on the bottom of the laptop? Knowing this will help to find the correct service manual for your laptop.

If there is a HDD being shown, the problem may be due to a faulty/corrupt boot partition on the HDD.

To fix this create a Windows Recovery USB disc. This can be done from any known working Win10 (or Win 11) PC. All you need is an 8GB (or 32GB for Win11) USB flashdrive and 1-2 hours of time.

In the host PC go to Control Panel > Recovery > Create a recovery disc and follow the prompts.

Once you have the recovery USB, insert it into the laptop and then turn on the laptop and press the F9 key a few times (or get into BIOS) and change the boot order to USB as the 1st boot option, the laptop should then boot from the USB drive into the Windows Recovery Environment menus.

When in WRE go to Troubleshooting > Advanced > Startup repair and follow the prompts.
