Hi @mohammedhitari!
The technicians may not be wrong. As far as I know, that's the most common error because camera and microphone are in the top bezel and therefore connected via the same cable.
This is actually a known issue with the XPS 13 Plus 9320. Multiple users report the camera and microphone failing simultaneously, especially after drops or physical impacts. According to repair shops, it's a "familiar thing with these laptops" and is related to the internal cable connection between the motherboard and the screen.
The display cable that runs through the hinge carries:
- Display signal
- Webcam/camera connection
- Microphone connection
- Sometimes touch digitizer (if applicable)
When a laptop falls or the hinge gets stressed, this cable can become loose or damaged, causing both camera and mic to stop working simultaneously.
I would recommend opening the screen ONLY if:
- You checked that there's no software error first:
- Check Device Manager - do the camera and mic show up at all?
- Try reinstalling Intel 2D Imaging MCU Visual Sensing Controller Driver
- Update all drivers from Dell's support site for your specific model
- Check BIOS settings - sometimes camera/mic are disabled there
- If software checks fail, then it's likely the cable:
- The display cable (LVDS/eDP cable) needs to be reseated or replaced
- This requires opening the screen bezel and potentially the bottom case
- It's a delicate repair - if you're not comfortable, consider a repair shop
Given that your laptop fell recently and both devices failed together, it's almost certainly a loose or damaged display cable. The good news is that reseating it might fix the issue without needing a replacement part!
Best of luck with the repair!
Best wishes
Marvin
