Background and Identification
The Honda Civic is a line of cars first produced by Honda in 1972 as subcompact vehicles. The Civic gave Honda its first market success with a standard compact car. Civic has undergone ten generational changes, becoming more upscale and larger. The eighth-generation Honda Civic was released in September 2005 for the 2006 model year.
Released in North America for the 2006 model year, the eighth generation Civic was a major cosmetic upgrade from the previous generation. Models from these years are easily recognized by their slim headlights and long, slender body design. This generation also introduced the “two-tier” instrument panel. In most markets, all eighth-generation Civic models (including the base model) featured power windows, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and side/curtain airbags. Much like previous generations, the Civic came in a number of trim levels and was available as a 4-door sedan or 2-door coupe. There was no hatchback version of the Civic from 2006 to 2011. Sedan and coupe versions were available in DX, DX-G, LX, EX, EX-L, and Si trim levels. The Civic Hybrid model was only released as a sedan.
Honda automobiles can be identified by the Honda emblem, which depicts an ‘H’ inside a rectangle with soft corners. Honda Civic vehicles in the Americas also include an emblem on the left side of the rear end of the car, which depicts the name ‘Civic’ in capital letters. The trim level name is generally included in capital letters on the rear of the car.
