Background
The Acer Aspire is a series of computers made by Acer, began sales in September 1995, and became one of the main series that Acer sells and produces around 2002. The Aspire series has desktop and laptop computers, and range from basic computers to high performance ones.
The Aspire series has everyday all-in-one laptops, designed for browsing and work use, though there are some more powerful lineups which were made for gaming. The lineups vastly range in performance and features, with lineups such as the Aspire 1, 3, 5, 7, V, R, to name a few, each made for different specific demographics with specific features.
The Acer Aspire 5349 is part of the Aspire 5 lineup and was made to be a low-budget and affordable laptop with very basic features and relatively low performance, as it retailed for about $349 USD around 2012. It was intended for those looking for a cheap laptop to do their work on, including students. The Aspire 5349 looks exactly like the rest of the Aspire 5 laptops, as they all share a similar chassis, with the main differences between them being their performance and storage capacities, as each was tailored for a different level of performance. All models which replaced this one had improvements in performance, such as stronger processors and higher storage capacities. Acer has since discontinued this product.
There have been no recall requests for the Acer Aspire 5349, however there has been one recall for laptops in the Acer Aspire series. In January 2010, the CPSC along with Acer announced a recall of some Acer Aspire laptops due to concerns of a microphone wire in the laptop short-circuiting and overheating, becoming a potential burn hazard for the consumer. This resulting in around 22,000 laptops being recalled. Since this incident, Acer has not called recalls on any other products in the Aspire series.
