Background and Identification

Cisco Systems, Inc. is an American technology conglomerate headquartered in San Jose, California. Cisco Systems develops, manufactures, and sells networking hardware, software, telecommunications equipment, and other high-technology services and products. Cisco also specializes in specific technology markets such as the Internet of Things (IoT), domain security, and energy management through its acquired subsidiaries such as OpenDNS, Webex, Jabber, and Jasper. Cisco has grown popular in the Asia-Pacific region since its founding in 1984. It is also the dominant vendor in the Australian market.

Cisco’s products and services focus on three market segments: enterprise, service provider, and midsize and small business. Cisco provides information technology (IT) products and services across five major technology areas: networking, security, collaboration, data center, and the Internet of Things. Cisco has become a significant provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to enterprises and has moved into the home user market after its acquisition of Scientific Atlanta and Linksys. Scientific Atlanta provides VoIP equipment to cable service providers including UPC, Time Warner, Cablevision, and Rogers Communications. Linksys partnered with Skype, Microsoft, and Yahoo! to integrate consumer VoIP services with cordless phones.

Cisco Systems phones and other products often include the Cisco logo, which includes the name “Cisco” underneath a series of vertical lines of varying lengths. Usually, the logo is printed in a light blue color.
