Background and Identification
The Sony Vaio PCG-5N4L laptop is part of the Sony Vaio series produced by Sony. Sony made computers in the 1980s but temporarily stopped to focus on mobile devices. In 1996, they began making computers again under the Vaio brand, but discontinued their personal computer sales again in 2014, selling their PC business to Japan Industrial Partners Inc.
The Sony Vaio PCG-5N4L was sold between 2007 and 2009 and includes a built-in webcam and Windows Vista. The laptop includes the name “Sony” in capital letters in the center of the laptop’s bottom bezel.
All Sony computers have a PCG reference number, such as PCG-xxxxxx. However, this number should not be used as an identifying number, since it describes a group of similar products and not a specific model. To identify the exact model of the Sony Vaio computer that you want to repair, you will need to find the product name and serial number. The product name can usually be found on a sticker located on the display frame or above the keyboard. The serial number is on a sticker on the underside of the computer, or sometimes behind the battery if the battery is removable. The product name for this computer is PCG-5N4L.
