Inspection of the leading edge of the removed jammed paper may show a slight indentation often on the right hand side. This indentation is made when it strikes the little lever called a Flag. The flag is approx 1 centimeter long is spring loaded with a tail that sits on top of an internal feed roller with the trailing end towards the paper exit. This senses the leading edge of the incoming paper signaling the start of printing, and also signals the end of the paper after printing. Some times a flag will become jammed with paper debris or more often when previous paper jam has been cleared by pulling the jammed page out back the way it came. Which may be the only way of removing the paper if the leading cannot be accessed. A page torn during this exercise may leave a tiny piece of paper jammed under the Flag lever, hence the indention on the next jammed page. De-Judge
