Hi, my name is Shawn Pan and I am a freshman majoring in Computer Science at the University of North Texas.

Major

I chose Computer Science because I love playing around with technology, specifically with Computers. I've always find Computers fascinating and fun. There's just something so great about navigating a screen and being able to explore anything with it. Another reason why I chose this major is because the job field(s) within this major offer good pay/salary. Receiving a good pay/salary will not only help support me financially, but also my family financially as I am a first-generation college student and they're not. My family are also not born in the U.S. so being able to keep up with the standard of living as an immigrant for them is not always easy. I also feel like when you have a higher income in your bank, you are more likely to live comfortably and feel more content in life.

When I graduate college, I want to be an Information Security Analyst.

Projects/accomplishments

I've built a small closet, with the help of my family. However, I was still proud of it, because I know that if I can build something small and simple, I also have ability to build something big and complex.

Repair experience

Never fixed anything but a police officer taught me how to fix a car tire when it got flat in the middle of the road. Additionally, my dad and grandpa taught me how to stop the car tire air from leaking out when a nail gets stuck in there.

Accolades

I've received a $1,000 UNT scholarship, a food service course certificate, and a security guard course certificate throughout my high school career.

Groups/memberships

I've joined a Community Service Club back in my junior year of high school. The club lasted 3 months.

Hobbies

I like to do the basic and mundane things in life like driving and working. I know it's a little weird to like doing the things most people in the world probably hate, but I genuinely find fun and interest in these things. At the end of the day, it's what you make of it. I also enjoy other hobbies such as swimming at a pool, riding my bike, workout, playing video games, and watching videos.

How does this project relate to you?

This project will benefit me both personally and professionally because being able to fix and build things from scratch personally makes me feel good and accomplished; professionally, the skills involved with this project will be useful to my future employers as these skills will help them decide on if I'm a suitable employee in the workforce.

Any other fun facts you'd like to add?

I do not have any pets. A food I cannot live without are eggs. I cannot list the 50 U.S. states in alphabetical order. I cannot make my eyebrows dance. I do not have a favorite artist. My favorite book is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and the reason why I like this book is because the book had an interesting and addictive plot. My favorite music is Alligator Sky by Owl City and the reason why I like this music is because the lyrics within the music sounds exciting and motivating. I do not have a favorite game. My favorite sport is tennis and the reason why I like this sport is because throwing and catching a tennis back and forth and ball is thrilling.
