The Basics
- Check power and batteries: Most Logitech mice have a LED by the scroll wheel indicating power/battery status. If the LED is off, the mouse is not getting power. Ensure the mouse is turned on (some models have a power switch on the bottom). Misaligned or dead batteries are common causes of no-response. Replace the batteries and ensure proper insertion. Additionally, make sure your mouse is fully charged, and ensure that the mouse is charging correctly.
- Power Cycle the Mouse: For USB mice that don't auto-shutdown, they may enter sleep mode after a period of inactivity. Check your Logitech software for any power settings that control automatic sleep behavior.
- Avoid USB Hubs: USB hubs are netorious for introducing issues with high-performance mice. If you are able to, try plugging in your mouse directly into your computer.
- Check your Mouse's Connection:
- If you are using a wired USB Logitech Mouse ensure the cable is securely plugged into a working USB port. You may also want to try a different USB port on your computer.
- If your Logitech Mouse is wireless remove the batteries and wait 10 seconds, then reinsert them ensuring correct polarity (+ and -). You may also want to try reinserting the USB dongle or if you are using bluetooth re-pair your device with your computer.
Software/Driver Issues
Solution: Update or Reinstall your Mouse's Drivers
Updating/Reinstalling on Windows
- Open Device Manager and look for the driver to your Logitech Mouse. This should be under Mice and other pointing devices.
- Scroll through the Mice and other pointing devices catigory and look for your Logitech Mouse's driver.
- Once you found your driver right-click on your Logitech Mouse's driver and click on Update driver.
- Once you click update driver it will open an new window. In this new window click Search automatically for drivers. If windows can't find the drivers automatically you may need to download the drivers from Logitech's official site.
If updating the drivers does not fix the isuse you may need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Follow steps one and two then right-click on your Logitech Mouse's driver and click on Uninstall device. When you reconnect your mouse the drivers should reinstall automatically.
Updating/Reinstalling on MacOS
- MacOS and Linux will use a generic driver for mice; however, if your mouse's manufacturer offers drivers on their website, try downloading the latest driver software from the manufacturer's site.
USB Port Issue
Solution: Check your USB ports for debris/damage
- Check your USB ports for Debris: If there's debris in the port, give it a thorough cleaning use a Q-tip or custom swab, a small soft-bristle brush, or canned air/eco-friendly alternative to clear stubborn blockages. Avoid using liquids, as they could cause water damage to the internal components.
- Check for Damage: Check the port for any burns or any other damage. If the port has any damage, then you will need to replace it.
Hardware Failure
Solution: Replace broken components where needed
If none of the above helps and the mouse behaves the same on another computer, the mouse itself may be faulty.
Replacing damaged components will require some soldering knowledge. Consider taking a look at our Soldering Skills section and our guide for How To Use a Multimeter.
- Disassemble the mouse and look for any burnt or damaged components: Disassemble your mouse and make sure nothing is broken or otherwise damaged. If you observe any visible damage, the mouse's mainboard should be replaced.
- Replace your battery: Batteries are notorious for their high consumption. Although they typically die slowly and with diminishing power on time, a bunk battery might refuse to be recognized or charged. Replace your battery if the above suggestions don't work. Battery degradation is inevitable, especially for smaller devices like mice. Replacement batteries are available along with the necessary replacement guides.
- Faulty Charging Port: If cleaning the charging port does not resolve the issue, you may need to replace it. This will likely require you to get access to the main board of your mouse, as well as some Soldering Skills section.
