Ultrabook Won't Turn On
No matter what, the Ultrabook will not turn on.
Not turning it on correctly
Hold the power button until the screen comes on. If the lights at the bottom of the device are on, but the screen is not the display may be bad.
Drained/bad battery
If your Ultrabook won't turn on, the battery may be bad, and it is time for a replacement.
Bad display
It is possible that it appears nothing is happening because the display is bad. In this case, it needs to be replaced.
Screen
My screen will not come on.
Cracked Screen
If the screen is cracked, the display may not come on at all. The screen will need to be replaced. Visit the screen replacement guide for how to do this.
Screen is too dim
The screen brightness may be set too low. Hold the "Fn" key while simultaneously pressing the "F3" key until the display is bright enough.
Touch Pad Does Not Work
I cannot move the cursor with the touch pad on the Ultrabook.
Touch pad is not enabled
Hold the "Fn" key and press the "F5" key simultaneously to enable the touch pad.
A bad touch pad
The touch pad has gone bad and most likely needs to be replaced.
Restart the Ultrabook
Restart the Ultrabook by holding the power button until the display goes black. Wait for machine to restart.
I Cannot Hear My Music/Video/Movie
I see that my media is playing, but I cannot hear it.
The sound is off
There are two methods for doing this:
- Hold the "Fn" key and press the "F8" key until the desired volume is reached.
- Go to the lower left hand side of the screen and find the audio adjuster (it looks like a small speaker). Click and adjust the slider to the desired volume.
Another device is plugged in the audio jack
Check the audio jack (on the left side of the machine) and ensure nothing is plugged in there. This would cause the audio to play into that device rather than through the built-in speakers.
OS Problem
There is a problem with the operating system. The drivers need to be updated. Contact the manufacturer to learn how to do this.
Disconnected or Faulty Speaker
The speaker may be disconnected or faulty. The back cover needs to be taken off to check if this is the case.
Sound card/Motherboard Issue
The sound card or motherboard may be defective or not functioning properly. Contact the manufacturer to learn how to obtain a replacement.
The Ultrabook is very noisy while running
Whenever the laptop is on, it is hard to focus on my work with so much noise coming out of it.
A bad fan
If you can see the fan spinning while you hear the noise, the fan is bad and needs to be replaced. Visit the fan replacement guide for how to do this.
A faulty hard drive
If the fan is not spinning, back up your data immediately. Replace the hard drive.
Ultrabook Will Not Power On
Nothing is coming on, even the lights at the front of the computer.
The battery is out of charge
Plug in the charger to an outlet and then to the Ultrabook. The light at the front should come on indicating the battery is charging.
The battery is dislodged
The connection between the battery and the power cable has been severed in some way. Open up the casing on the bottom to check the connection.
The battery is dead
The battery cannot hold a charge anymore and needs to be replaced. The machine should still operate if plugged in, however. Visit the battery replacement guide for how to do this.
My Ultrabook Will Not Charge
I want to take my Ultrabook out of the house, but I cannot charge it.
The power cable Is dislodged
The power cable is out of place, and not delivering a proper charge to the laptop. Check both the connection point where the cord plugs into the laptop and where the cord plugs into the battery pack itself.
There is a faulty connection
The connection point between the charger tip and the jack is broken. It either needs to be replaced or repaired by soldering.
The charger is broken
If all the above fails, the charging cord is broken and needs to be replaced. A new one can be purchased through the manufacturer.
My Ultrabook Is Running Very Slowly
When I first got it, my laptop was fast. Now it takes 10 minutes to power on.
The laptop's hard drive is full
To check this, open the "Windows Explorer." If you are unsure where this is, click the Windows tile in the bottom left and search for it. Under "Computer" right click on the drive that has "(C:)" after it. Click on "Properties." This will bring up the page that shows how much hard drive space remains. If there is little to no purple showing in the pie chart, you need to delete items or move them to another device (such as an external hard drive) to make room for the computer to work.
The hard drive is broken
The hard drive may have broken. To check if this is the case, and for help in how to replace it visit the hard drive replacement guide.
The laptop is trying to process too much at once
The laptop may be trying to process too much all at one time. To check if this is the case, first right click on the task bar at the bottom of the screen (the one that contains all the icons including the Windows button). Select "Start Task Manager." Once this has popped up, select "Performance." This will show the CPU's work capacity. If this is full, select "Processes" and kill some applications to free up some of the CPU.
A virus/malware has infected the computer
Through internet use, malicious software has been installed on the computer. A computer technician may be required to properly eliminate this virus to get the computer running at full speed again.

thanks for this. However, none of these options applies to my Samsung Series 5, which has been super slow to run Windows (first 7, now 10) since I bought it. My drive is only 33% full. Even when the performance capacity is CPU 6% and Memory 45%, Windows programs are slow to open, to close and to perform. There is no malware, and the hard drive is healthy. Some others have suggested uninstalling IntelliMemory: http://www.shouldiremoveit.com/IntelliMe...
Your assessment / feedback re: this option would be welcome.
