With the laptop turned on, try shining a flashlight at an angle close to the laptop screen and check if you can see any images at all.
They will be ''very faint'' if they are there, so trying this in a darkened room may help to see them.
''If you can see images'' then there's a backlight problem with the laptop LCD panel. This could be either a faulty video cable connection on the motherboard, a faulty backlight power supply circuit on the motherboard or a faulty LCD panel.
''If you can't see any images'' try connecting an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop's HDMI port and check if there are any images displayed on the TV. Don't forget to press the display hotkey and the keyboard to toggle to output display between the laptop screen, the external monitor or both on together.
