Lens stays open lens error
My lens no longer retracts and I get a message on the screen that says "lens error".

Sue, sounds like a stuck lens. Either because of dust/debris in the gears or it has become misaligned. Follow the ideas from this site. If that should not accomplish anything, you may have to replace the lens. Follow this guide to get it accomplished. Hope this helps, good luck
