Installed new joystick no respond on the psp

Hi I have a psp 3000 and I deconstructed it to put it in a new shell and the joystick stop working (it was working fine before deconstructing)so I ordered a new one installed it and still nothing everything else works fine but the joystick, do I have to calibrated some how ? Any help is appreciated thanks
