When I turn on my PS4, everything starts properly and I could hear the sounds coming from the TV. But I get a black screen the entire time. Tried it on another TV and same problem. My nephew said he jumped on it (bad decision to have left it on the ground). I have not a clue as to how to approach this problem. Please help if you can & thank you.

It's very likely that your PS4 just has a broken HDMI port. The ports on these are very fragile and break often. Many times you will still be able to hear sound even if you don't see a picture. Since your PS4 starts up normally and everything seems to work fine other than you don't get a picture there is most likely nothing major wrong. It's very, very likely that it's just an HDMI port issue.
When he jumped on it he probably either jumped on the HDMI cable or somehow caused the cable to get jammed into the port. This could have easily caused it to go bad. The original HDMI ports on these were really bad.

I have the same issue, it says resolution has to be changed but how would I change without video on screen
I also have the same issue my PS4 turns on and works fine normally and it shows that there is something connected in the source menu but when I click on it the PS4 menu doesn'5 show up

PlayStation sounds like it’s running good but I have no picture and the sound is coming in and out like the mute is cut on and off
Had the same issue.
I have an android tv, and rebooting fixed it. Just be aware that turning it off/on via the remote doesn't reboot it!! I unplugged the power cord on mine to trigger a reboot.

Worst case scenario: when he jumped on it, the logic board cracked. Solution: get a new device.
Other scenarios
The pins holding the processor heatsink on snapped out, and the processor was overheating. Solution: If it's not already totally fried, reapply thermal compound (preferably Arctic Silver 5) and reinstall the heatsink. If that doesn't fix it, time for a new console.
The connector for HDMI was damaged. Solution: get an HDMI port with solder points, desolder the old one, and solder a new one on. This is highly improbable, though, because HDMI is a digital connection, and the sound wouldn't have passed through.

-Thermal paste has nothing to do with why this console is acting this way. If the "processor was overheating" then the console would beep 3 times, the light would turn red and it would turn itself off. This console is not overheating.
-If the "logic" board was cracked it would probably not even turn on.
-HDMI ports on PS4's will often times send sound through but not the picture...it just depends on which pins on the port are broken.
I have mine hooked up with optical audio cable for sound and hdmi for video. No picture but can hear sound fine. console responds to my buttons on controller and can hear the console open programs. Would this isolate the problem into the HDMI port in your opinion? Also would it be worth it to try to fix myself or send to sony tech so i dont mess it up worse?
Sounds like it could be the HDMI port. If you haven't tried a new cable you should do that first.
Don't try replacing the port yourself...unless you have a good amount of soldering experience.

I had this issue after watching a non Blu-ray dvd. I tried everything listed online and all I had to do was power my PS4 on let it boot up and then reset my tv, once the tv came back on the PS4 worked perfectly!

I changed the HDMI cable and rebooted my TV as well as my PS4, safe mode and then option 5 (rebuild database) that did the trick
The TV reset has also done it for me, I'm not sure why as I had tried with multiple HDMI cables, another TV but then only gained hope when I hooked it up to a monitor and it worked fine. I did turn off HDCP but it didn't have an impact until the TV reset
Restarting tv fixed problem for me
Old post but just had this issue as well and restarting my tv fixed the issue. I fully unplugged the tv, plugged it back in and everything was working fine.

I have the same issue I wasn't playing my ps4 but when I got back on it it was black screen i bought a new HDMI plugged it in and still black screen please help me

Same problem did all safe mode options except 7. Only had ps4 slim for 1 year n cpl month s but i turn on system its shows ps symbol then goes right to system storage status then after that it goes to black screen or regular tv screen with blue light flashing or white solid
... I was told to much storage so I bought an external harddrive and put some on there and now cant eben get to home screen to go to settings or anytjing...To top it off playstation support is not answering calls and its under warranty and they wont repair or replace because of covid..what a joke

I had black screen, the menu sound playing for a second then no signal. Then menu sound, for a second then no signal repeated endlessly.
Powered off the ps4 and the TV, checked the hdmi cable and ports. It was a bit dusty on the ps4, blew the dust away with a deep breath (like and old Nintendo64) plugged it all back and it worked. Thank goodness!

Hi guys I think I found the solution for who had the same problem like me but let me first tell's you what is the problem .
I started the PS4 after putting in it all night on safe mode but it's showing nothing on the screen and i hear the sound menu but its cut in out. so I tried some things. I tried safe mode and it just black screen but i know the option to change resolution is the second choice so i press to change the resolution and the PS4 restarted but the same problem nothing on the screen so i tried a new HDMI cable and it's still not working I tried another port on HDMI in the tv nothing... I tried to clean the HDMI port on the back of my PS4 nothing. so i tried to put the PS4 on the safe mode again and rebuild database the option is the 5 one and I click it and while im waiting i was on this website scrolling to find solution and I find some one says that he just turned off the TV and turn it back on and i said no way haha i was so desperate and i do it and it worked. and i find the rebuild database on 65% so i don't know is that the turn off and turn on thing fixed it or was the rebuild database

My ps4 pro does this fairly often after been in sleep mode a long time (few days at a time) i just have to power it down (losing whatever progress isnt saved in my standby game) and power back on and it always works fine.

I was playing a NASCAR game fine. Took a break for a few hours put in a Blu-ray just got a black screen. So I put the game back in got sound, but still had three black screen. Mind you it was working fine and I didn't took the HDMI cable at all. So it does not make any sense to me.

I have had this same exact problem, only when I disconnect everything and reconnect it, for around 30 seconds to a minute the screen comes back. At the start it’s a normal screen then it starts to flicker, then even more flickering for longer periods, eventually after a minute the whole screen goes black. I can still hear the sound though. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this, I doubt it’s my HDMI port or cable as it’s new. My monitor works fine with my PC, but doesn’t work with my PS4 and my 0s4 works fine with my tv but not the monitor, anyone got any fixes?

i have my ps4 hooked up to a yamaha yas 207 soundbar and then soundbar to tv and im getting black screens 2 3 times and then it just stays on the black screen with no picture it only if i plug straight to tv it doesnt happen at all
I had this issue. Looks like the HDMI controller on the TV went haywire.
Unplugged all the HDMI leads (from other inputs) on the TV, plugged them back in, worked fine..

Does anyone got it fixed. I am also having the same issue... Can play my ps4 on a 720p native projector which also supports 1080p. But on other monitors/TV's it won't show any video... I had to turn off hdcp and deep color to auto to work it on projector... And I can't even get to safe mode...
Also I just disassembled my console but it looks like hdmi port is fine no visible damage could it still be hdmi that's causing problem???
I'm having the same problem but I just get a new cable and it fixes it every time I think something specific in the cable is burning out that only PlayStation uses for Video part of the cable I'm thinking you should use a highspeed 2.0 cable instead of the 1.5 will probably still burn out periodically but last longer

i have the problem were my ps4 boots up sound works but no picture but works fine on downstairs tv any idea why it dont work on upstairs 1 when it used to ?

Working fine on one tv and only sound on another tv.

My Hitachi TV works new TV not TV. Smart 4 k.
But when play ps4 on it I can play it for while then after while screen go black but still sound
Not sure what it is ps4 new some say TV not compatible with ps4

Works fine with no ps4 not on. Soon go on play game after while plays up. Gonna try different TV if does same thing take ps4 back
