Touchscreen randomly becomes unresponsive
Hi,
bought an iPhone 6 Plus on eBay. It's in perfect condition and I think I got a bargain. It has an issue though, which was why it was sold as not working: the touchscreen randomly becomes unresponsive and the phone needs a reset to make it start working again.
It seems to do it particularly if left untouched for a while.
I did a restore in DFU mode and it's still doing it.
It's 16 months old so out of warranty with Apple.
I booked an appointment with a genius tomorrow, but I believe that they won't fix that for free, even if I read on their forum lots of people complain about this issue especially after upgrading to iOS 9.
Also, worth mentioning that I checked the serial number of this iPhone and it qualifies for the Apple free iSight camera replacement program for the Iphone 6 Plus (rear camera producing blurry images).
Does it sound like a software issue or a hardware one? Thanks in advance for any replies.

No, screen looks fine. No lines or anything like that. Phone has no dents and is cosmetically in mint condition.
Pretty sure touchscreen stops working only after the phone has gone in standby for a while. If I am using it, it works fine so I don't understand how it can be a hardware issue.
Update (04/29/2016)
Ah I have noticed that if I keep tapping while the screen is unresponsive, the tap on the screen will sometimes register but the only thing that works is a reset and sometimes I have to reset twice in a row for the touchscreen to become responsive again.

My iPhone doesn't display a grey bar though. Also, yesterday it became unresponsive, I kept tapping the camera icon, the touch input finally registered and that unfroze the touchscreen without even a reset.
I'm starting to think it's just a faulty digitizer.
Update (05/15/2019)
I wanted to give an update since a couple of years have passed…
The phone worked perfectly for a year or so after they replaced the rear camera then the touch disease returned.
It definitely did something good to the phone as it allowed me to use it for quite a while before packing up for good.
I sold the phone on eBay as not working for about the same money I paid for it so I didn't lose money on it.

I repair phone and noticed that 90% of 6 Plus iPhones do not respond after screen change. I have even had them replaced at the Apple Store and they mostley fail to respond to touch. I believe that the driver for the digitizer shorts out if the screen is not changed imediatly after breaking. Apple should really recall all od the 6 Plus iPhones that have this issue as they are all mosly defective beyound reason. There is a lot of bad information on this thread and I hope this info is good

Hey guys, it's definitely Touch IC. You can verify this with a simple internet search for "Touch Disease". You'll find a lawsuit as well as petitions setup get Apple to take responsibility for this problem. You can voice yourself more and spread that word at:

I have had this same issue with Iphone 6 for three months and have had the screen replaced 3 times - Try turning off the fingerprint sensor (TouchID)
I did this, then force restarted my phone and have not had the problem since.
Hope this is helpful to some of you!

BS you not. Same issue here. Powered down. Gave a full charge. Powered it back up in an hour. Still same issue. Put on airplane mode. Turned on WiFI. To my amazement it is working fine now.
