Hard Drive not Detected after upgrading to SSD

I upgraded to a SSD after my stock hard drive failed. After running diagnostics, all hardware works but no HDD is detected at BIOS. Tried reseating it and still no luck. Upgraded to Corsair 120gb SATA 3 SDD.

Dells website and phone service both were unable to answer if my device would accept HDD to SSD replacement.

Update (04/25/2017)

Thank you for your quick response Dan. This SSD is backwards compatible so there is still something awry.

My system would boot to desktop (with windows on usb) and could not complete windows download with a storage space issue. Knowing I had the space that was the first I noticed that there was no HDD being recognized- now I only get as far as setting language pref and cannot reach the desktop. Does this raise any flags?

The only other possibility is the drives SATA cable is bad.

Can you tell us what SSD you're using here (Make & Model)?

The SSD is a Corsair Force Series 120gb SATA 3. Thanks again for your input.

If you take a look at the spec sheet under 'Storage' you'll see your system only has a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) interface so the SSD you get needs to be able to run at this speed. Review the SSD's spec sheet to double check. As an example here is a drive that will work: Samsung 750 EVO Note the 'Interface' line clearly states it runs in all three SATA specs. this drive has auto I/O speed sense technology, many drives today don't as the market for upgrading older SATA I & SATA II systems is waning and to be price competitive the drive companies (both HD & SSD) are dropping this ability and only offering fixed SATA III drives.
