I have just been given a set of Sony headphones model number MDR-XB450AP. When plug them into my computer and my iPod touch they work fine but when I plug the extension cable that I have the volume on headphone is low and faint. I know the extension cable work alright with other heads.

Hi,

Just wondering, is there sound in both the left and the right headphone?

Also do the other headphones that you tried with the extension cable have a 4 'ring' connector plug like the Sony, i.e. TRRS plug (tip, ring 1, ring 2, sleeve) or a 3 ring TRS plug (tip, ring, sleeve)?

If not the extension cable may not be suited to a TRRS plug (it should be but....)

There is sound in both the left and the right side of headphones. The other headphones I have tried I am not sure but I think they either have a 1 or 2 ring.

Hi,

Post some close up images of:

1 the plug from the Sony headphone.

2. the plug from one of the headphones that work with the extension cable.

3.the plug from the extension cable.

Here's how to do it 기존 질문에 이미지 추가하기

Hi,

Your problem is that the "ground" connector" in the "female" socket of the extension cable is contacting the "microphone" connector in the Sony "male" plug and not the ground connector.

If you get one of these adapters to connect between the Sony headphones and the extension cable, it will solve the problem.

There are two main "wiring standards CTIA & OMTP" and depending on which particular one you have (and you might not know until you try it) and what you are trying to connect it to, this adapter will allow it to work for either one, unless you don't need it at all.

You do not have to buy a new cable.

Hi Angela Cameron,

Just search for a 3.5mm 4-Pole TRRS Standards Bi-Directional Adapter and select the supplier of your choice.

Extension and Sony headphone not compatible. Simple terms, extension has 2 line on pin, heads have 3. So when you plug extension to port, you are only getting 2/3 of sound. Buy ext with 3 pins.
