The tailgate handle broke on my '94 Toyota p/u. I want to know if I have to undo all 12 screws on the tailgate door (inside bed) to get a peek inside and if that is the way in to fix the problem. Right now the tailgate won't open: the latch moves up/down with no resistance. My guess is that there is a piece inside that broke. So really 2 questions: how to open a broken tailgate and how to fix the handle?

dana_orrick yes you have to remove those 12 screws. Those hold the service cover in place. Once removed you see what is broken etc. Of course, you can then also use it to open the tailgate.
