The left hinge on my HP Envy J184sa has become loose then broken altogether.. This has resulted in the sound being extremely choppy or outright cutting off until I jiggle the hinge around... Is there a way to perhaps replace the sound card, etc? I think it may be in close proximity to the hinge itself?

Hi @jkole ,
There is no sound card per se in your laptop. It has an onboard audio controller.
You'll find that it is the left speaker that is close to the left hinge and moving the hinge may be shorting it out or shutting down the audio controller to prevent damage.
Here is a link to the service manual for your laptop.
In it you'll find the necessary pre-requisite steps and the procedures to gain access to the speakers and the hinges.
If you find that you need to replace the hinges, the part numbers are included as well. Just search online using the part number only in the search box, to find suppliers of the part, that suit you best.
