D Brown Canon cameras, by default, will let you shoot without a memory card in the camera. You see the photo on the screen but once the display shuts off, the picture disappears. There is no way to get the picture back since it is not actually stored in the camera. Within your cameras menu there should be an option to turn off the ability to take pictures without a memory card.
