LCD Screen not working

My GoPro hero 5 is working but not the screen, the screen has no power but it still response when you tap the screen

Me too. my camera's screen just stopped working and GoPro told me to send the receipt and I would get a new camera, but when I sent the receipt a different GoPro person told me I would only get 20 per cent off a new camera. I read that they were replacing all cameras with this default because it was a defect. Has anyone else experienced different messages from GoPro like this?

Yes I have the same problem with mine.

There's a cable between the battery and micro sd card slot and that cable you have probabbly cut or something while accedantly putting the sd in the wrong place.

I assume that you cannot view the menus on the screen either

It may be either a loose connection to the LCD screen, that the LCD screen is faulty and needs to be replaced or worst case that there is a fault on the motherboard.

Try shining a torch at an angle close to the LCD screen to check if you can detect an image at all when using the camera. It will be very faint so try it in a darkened room if possible.

If you can detect an image it means that there is a backlight problem with the screen. Either there is no power being supplied from the motherboard to the backlight circuit in the LCD screen or the backlight circuit in the screen is faulty and the screen will have to be replaced as it cannot be repaired. Hopefully it is not a motherboard problem in supplying backlight power to the screen.

If you cannot detect an image (or even if you can) then unfortunately without a schematic, the only way to determine if it is a problem with the screen or the motherboard is to replace one or the other. Again hopefully it is not a motherboard problem.

Here’s a link to a video that shows how to replace the LCD screen + digitizer in the camera. This will also help you to check if the LCD video flex cable connection is OK.

The LCD screen is "lit up" for me but no image would this be a ribbon cable or something worse?

Take some pictures with the camera and then check if they're OK when downloading them from the SD card plugged into a card reader connected to a computer.

If the images are OK then it could be faulty LCD screen, a LCD screen cable/cable connection problem i.e. loose video cable, backlight power cable OK or a problem with the motherboard - LCD screen video circuit.

If the images are black then it's the motherboard.

I realize that you cannot "see" what pictures you are taking but the camera may still be mostly working OK if the downloaded pictures are OK

I fix mine take apart clean put back together it works
