Hello,

I have a similar problem with my Latitude E7250 (i5-5300U)

When I push the power button, it lights up just for a split second, then dies.

The fan doesn’t even start spinning. I tried already the power refresh cycle, without success (and every combination of with/without battery or PSU, ecc ecc)

What could the next step be?

Thank you!

same problem with my inspiron 7567 "When I push the power button, it lights up just for a split second, then dies." same thing..

Mr. Dell, I have the same issue. The laptop does not turn on at all. This appears to be a issue affecting many of your customers. What is the resolution?

Thank you.

I have a similar problem with a Inspiron 5458. When I press the power button, the status led lights for a few seconds then turns off ... absolutely no other activity!

This is the 3rd time it's happened to me with the same laptop ... I actually went out and bought a new laptop twice ... then after a week or so, magically it came back and turned on.

I tend to rarely turn it off, so I don't know if it would happen often if I did, but the problem has e-occurred several times in the last few years. Note that one time I convinced Dell to fix another problem (boot rom was corrupted after Dell support SW tried to update it) and they put a new motherboard in ... and I had the problem occur within weeks of receiving it back from Dell (maybe that says it's not a motherboard problem).

Anyway, I have the extra computer I bought before ... so we'll see if it sarts up again within a week or so ...

My Dell is not working when pressing power on button no response from what is the problem can help me out with solution

Hi,

Try a power refresh and check if this resolves the problem.

Remove the charger (if connected) and the battery from the laptop. (Here’s a link to the ifixit Dell Inspiron 1564 Battery Replacement guide)

Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power from the laptop, then release the button.

Reconnect and switch on the charger to the laptop (leave the battery out at this stage).

Try to turn on the laptop.

If it starts OK, allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop, wait for the HDD activity to settle a bit, then shutdown the laptop in the normal manner.

When it has completely shutdown, switch off and disconnect the charger from the laptop.

Reinsert the battery into the laptop.

Reconnect and switch on the charger to the laptop.

Try to turn on the laptop.

If it starts OK, allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop, wait for the HDD activity to settle a bit, then check the charge status of the battery. if it is charging allow it to fully charge before switching off the charger and disconnecting it from the laptop.

Hi,

When you say "….I know the battery is good….." how did you test this?

I'm wondering since you don't get any lights at all when plugging in the charger if there may be a problem with the DC-In jack (also known as the AC Adapter connector in the service manual), therefore no power into the laptop and the battery couldn't be charged and has gone flat.

Here's a link to the service manual for the laptop.

Click on the AC Adapter connector link at the top of the page in the manual to go to the relevant section which shows the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the connector.

When it is disconnected from the motherboard you can use an Ohmmeter to test it for continuity to make sure that it is OK.

If it is faulty here's a link to a supplier of the part. It's shown just to give you an idea of the cost of the part. There are other suppliers who may suit you better.

Just search for Dell Inspiron 1564 DC-In jack part to get results.

it didn't work. I did exactly what you said. I confirmed the charger wasn't the issue and I know the battery is good but I had no lights, fans or any noises If you know anything else it would help. thank you for telling me about the power refresh.

Thanks a lot IFIXIT. I followed all the steps and my DELL E7470 is back to its functioning ways.

Please continue to assist us with good guidance of this kind.

I'm sorry to say, but I visited DELL side but all in vain…I did watch the Dell support YouTube video tutorial but wasn't clear as IFIXIT has been…only to realize this is what Dell were trynna say but why is it that thier procedure lead me to failing to resolve the problem.

Thanks once again IFIXIT.

I finally tried this after stressing about a new laptop and it worked! Thanks!

I have a similar issue and the fix is working without unplugging the battery. I do the following:

1) Unplug the AC adapter

2) Wait for a few minutes (5 minutes or so)

3) Turn the laptop ON without plugging the AC adapter

4) Plug the AC adapter when the Inspiron turns back ON

The funny thing is that is in step 3 I plug in the AC adapter, the laptop will not turn ON.

Another issue is that the laptop shuts down on it's own every few hours and I have to follow the procedure above to turn it back ON. Any ideas?

You can also try plugging your laptop in, before holding the power button for at least 15 secs. After that allow it to boot up, or If your laptop isn’t already on press the power button for a normal period of time. Hope this helps!
