Fan sounds like an engine

My fan will randomly run super fast around 4000 to 6000 rpms and I don’t know why. All temperatures are in normal ranges.

Hi

how long does it run at high speed?

Are you playing intensive games or watching videos at the time?

If you have Win 10 installed, when it occurs, right click on the Taskbar and click on Task Manager.

Select Processes > CPU and check the CPU % and also the name of the process that is using the highest CPU %.

Also check in Event Manager for any Critical, Error or Warning events that have a number of the same event IDs and that may have occurred at the time that the fan is running at high speed.

To get to Event Viewer, right click Windows Start button, left side of Taskbar and click on Event Viewer.

This is maybe a start to finding out what may be happening.

It may run like this for 10-20 seconds or it may go on for 20 minutes. I’m not running any games or videos at the time and the cpu temp from bios is around 28 degrees C. The highest cpu usage was by 12.6% from windows defender.

Hi,

Do you have a rough idea when the problem started?

If so click on Windows Start button > Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > View Update History and check if there was an update that occurred at about the same time. If your running Windows Defender it most probably will show updates every day (this is the only A/V program that is installed isn't it - you're not running two A/V programs at the same time by any chance?)

Try starting the laptop in safe mode just for a while and check if the problem happens.

Only suggest this as there are only generic Windows drivers loaded not specific drivers for any of the hardware.

Have you got the latest BIOS and drivers installed?

Did Event Viewer show anything, you didn't say?
