Hi @denzelm

Try a full power refresh in case it is a corrupted BIOS and check if that resolves the problem.

Here’s the procedure:

a). Disconnect the charger from the laptop if connected.

b). Disconnect the main battery from the motherboard.

c). Disconnect the RTC battery from the IO board.

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop. Go to p.31 and p.50 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the main battery and the RTC battery respectively.

When the battery is removed measure its voltage. If it is <2.6V DC replace it. The part number is 5B10S34067. If you search online using the part number only, you will find suppliers of the part.

d). Press and hold the laptop Power button for a full 30 seconds and then release it

e). Reconnect the RTC battery (or its replacement).

f). Reconnect the main battery and re-assemble the laptop.

g). When the laptop is completely re-assembled, connect the charger and try to turn on the laptop.

If it starts OK there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been completely reset back to its default settings. Once the date and time have been adjusted the message won’t appear the next time that the laptop is started.

If you had previously changed any user defined settings in BIOS to suit whatever specific hardware configuration that you had for the laptop, then these will have to be set again.

I can’t open up the laptop as I don’t have any tools

@denzelm

You will need tools or know someone who has them to be able to try and fix your laptop.

The tool list is on p.29 of the manual I linked but I think that all you would need is a T5 torx screwdriver as the base cover screws are Torx head.

The T5 is used for screws with a 1.4mm point to point diameter and the T30 (other Torx driver listed) is for screws with a 5.5mm point to point diameter but I don't think that the base screws are that big.

You can buy a T5 driver from ifixit

I was wondering if this may be software related as someone it does boot up, but u was wondering if there was anything I could do at home before I send it to Leo if

@denzelm

To be software related it has got to turn on first.

The power and novo button applies a signal to the motherboard so that the BIOS firmware can initiate the turn on procedure but it would be very unusual for two buttons to have the same problem i.e. not working, unless the laptop suffered water or physical damage.

So in a way it is software but unless you can get it to at least start externally there's not much you can do.

The procedure I outlined above resets to BIOS firmware in case it has become corrupted which can prevent the laptop from turning on when the buttons are pushed.

If it still doesn't work after trying this then the schematics for the motherboard would be required to find out what's going on when the buttons are being pushed.

Either way the laptop will have to be opened.

so just do be sure, can i just buy a t5 screew and i should be good or is there anything else i need buy
