Let us see the actual switch that's underneath the button. Unscrew that circuit board and carefully lift it out -- give us a photo or two. I'd be that it's an inexpensive momentary switch that you can replace with some simple soldering; depending on how the switch behaves, though, you might even get away with electrical contact cleaner and rapid presses.
