Laptop doesn't recognize closed lid after display replacement.

Hey everyone,

I replaced a friend's display that broke due to a sneaky pen cap getting in the way. Everything went fine but for some reason the computer won't go to sleep when the lid is closed.

Trouble shooting the problem seems to point to the laptop not realizing the lid has closed in the first place.

Power settings have been switch to the appropriate 'sleep' function when lid is closed.

From what I understand there's two magnets that tell the laptop that the lid is closed but I don't see any switches or cables that would sense the magnets have been tripped and I'm a bit stumped.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Update (04/15/24)

Thought I would update everyone incase anyone else runs into this issue.

I was looking in the entirely wrong area. I thought the magnets that held the lid down to the keyboard were the magnets I was looking for.

It was actually a VERY tiny magnet (about 1/4 the size of my pinky nail) and was located close to the top buttons but in the display bevel.

Here is a picture to make it easier.

The NEW display did not come with this magnet. So I needed to install the old magnet in it's place.

@troyallan Let's find out if your lid sensor magnets even work. Get a magnet and run it along the lid and check if you can feel any repulsion/attraction. You can also try the same on the side of your top case and see if at any location you computer goes into sleep mode. That way you know the location. Your sensor is most likely a Hall sensor so I would expect it to be somewhere on the I/O board etc.
