Why won't it insert, eject, or read discs

Our Wii system would not read a disc that had already been in the system and worked a few days before. I was not able to eject the disc. I removed it with tweezers and it will not insert again. This apparently had happened before and my daughter believes that she solved the problem last time by pressing the red button on the front of the game, although this did not work this time. We have tried resetting and unplugging and neither have worked. When the power is turned on the blue light comes on then goes off. The game also makes a buzzing noise for longer than usual. Is this something that can be repaired, or do we need to purchase a new system. If it can be repaired is it something that we may be able to do ourselves? Thank you for your time.

I got mine out after being inactive with it for a few years. It all works, apart from now not accepting discs. The eject button does nothing. It does not make any odd noises, though.

Exactly the same thing happening with me.

I have this problem just with a switch. I took out Splatoon 2 to put in MARIO kart and it didn’t not go in. I tried to do it with all the other games they would also not go in. I blew and clean out the switch and made sure I was putting Ming them in right. Same outcome still would not go in

Marice Ruane, there are a couple of things you can try. Of course the first thing you'll have to do is to take your Wii apart. Follow this guide to get there. Check for loose connections etc. If all the cables are properly connected, you could try a few things. One being that the fuses have failed. " If you have a drive which fails to spin the disc up or properly eject or "eat" discs, you may have one or two blown fuses on the drive PCB. This guide will show you how to test and replace those fuses!" Ultimately if anything else fails, you may just have to replace the drive, for that you can use this guide. Check those guides and see what you think. It is not impossible for you to do it, just follow the guides, read them a few times and try to familiarize yourself with it. Hope this helps, good luck.

There is a good chance that you will need to open the Wii up and have a look. You will most likely have to realign the drive as there are 2 states that the drive can be in.

1. Loaded: this state is when there is a disk in the drive, there is a bit of metal that physically tried to stop from inserting more then 1 disk.

2. Unloaded: the drive has no disk inside it and can freely accept disks.

Since you removed the disk physically, the drive has not realigned itself to the unloaded state (it's still as if there is a disk in the drive). I would also bet that if you have little kids around that there is something in the drive that shouldn't be there ie. more disks or coins/debris (I see this a lot at my store).

Your original not reading issue may be either because the laser has burned out or could also be related to foreign debris being inserted into the drive. Either way you will have to crack it open, have a look and give it a good test.

To realign the drive, take out the 4 phillips head screws along the top of the drive and the 1 phillips head screw at the bottom left of the drive. The metal cage on the top of the drive should swing open from right to left (there will be a ribbon cable connecting it still on the left). The cage hooks on the right so you will have to push it slightly to the right before it comes free.

With the cage open and sitting on the left you can use your finger to rotate the round bit of plastic with a rubber band on it, if you look at it from the right, you will be rotating this anticlockwise. It will take a few revolutions to realign, you should see the metal prongs at the front of the drive beginning to go down. Once the metal prongs have receded behind the plastic and no longer obstruct disks, reassemble the drive and test it. Also you should have used this time to see if there is anything in the drive and remove it.

Goodluck in your repair endeavors :)

Ours wasn't this design, but we followed your instructions, and voilà it's working again! Thank you...I figured the worse that could happen was it would stay broken, no added loss, it was worth the gamble...and now we have a working wii system once more. Happy days are here again!

would add: stop after step 22 of the lens replacement guide, then follow the above instructions. I found THREE discs inside mine. Thanks, kids!

Check If the cd has scratches, fingerprints or anything else even after doing this it does not work the get a wet clean cloth and wipe the cd around the sides and everywhere so that it gets a good old wash. Wait till it gets dry and the insert the wii disc and check if it works . If still does not work then press the power button for 10secs and leave it for a minute and then turn it on again and insert the cd if it still does not work then your cd must have some technical problems.or scratches
