Lin, you don't say which year your Elantra is, so the first owners manual I came across was for a 2020 model, and hopefully that will work for yours too.
Anyway, the digital speed display is apparently part of the cruise control function and can be turned on or off in that area of the controls. This page from the manual gives instructions on how to turn the digital speed display on or off.
