Announced on September 28, 2023, the Raspberry Pi 5 acts as a revision of the Raspberry 4B's hardware.

Power supply burnt out

My raspberry pi 5 burned out.I suspect the chip behind the TYPE-C burned out. I tried using GPIO for power supply and it booted up normally. I wonder if there is any way to repair it.

I've experienced a similar problem recently, it burnt the PMIC on my Raspberry pi 5 and i am not able to use it anymore. If you have any updates and/or findings or can talk in detail about this, let me know by commenting below this.

I was using my raspberry pi 5 with the Waveshare UPS Hat E and for some reason, the ups F***ed my pi5 whereas it was supposed to protect it.

I'll be contacting waveshare's customer service.

Also, the second image you uploaded isn't opening/loading so, kindly re-upload it if possible.

Thanks

@omgomg the IC you are looking for is a Renesas DA9091 and is a PMIC specifically designed for the Pi 5. Looks like the only way to get one is either by asking Raspberry Pi Foundation for assistance or by finding another Pi5 where you can harvest this IC from.

There is a listing on eBay selling those.

I hope this information is helpful.

@geoge

is this a legit chip though ?

for all I know raspberry pi didn't release this chip and it's specfically made by them

Well, I bought 10 chips from him as I was curious, and also had some dead Raspberries.

The chips appear to be brand new and in very good working condition.

It takes some practice to learn how to solder them correctly because it's very tricky, but it's certainly doable.
