Internal memory chip on new mainboard

Has anyone ever soldered the internal memory chip onto a new motherboard?

And can you give me some tips?

@markusgeiger if you are looking at the K3LK4K40BM-BGCN remember that this memory IC is a 496 FBGA (lots of tiny little solder balls in a very limited space ;-) . That is one of those tasks that I would suggest you have somebody doing it that has done it before.

That is not to say that you can't do it yourself but practice on some older boards first. Don't do this ion you S20 if you have not done it before but practice first. this video is pretty good about explaining some of the techniques to do this kind of task.

In short, my tip on this is to practice a lot. YouTube videos are great for the How-to but are no substitute for actually doing it. There are big differnce between watching somebody that has done a lot of these IC doing it and doing it yourself.

It'll be a lot easier with a BGA IR rework station :-)

How I would practice is I'd probably just buy a bunch of S6s with broken screens or something ancient and go off of that. Heck of a lot cheaper then breaking an S20. The reason I'd want BROKEN screens is they're basically free at that point because of the screen cost vs the phone.

Thank you for your answers...

I think, i will look for someone who is way more experienced in soldering than me😅

But maybe i have to accept, that my data is lost😒

@markusgeiger sorry to say you are probably right. Just removing the memory chip from one board and then installing it on another board is no going to work. There are a few safe guards against that. If you absolutely need your data I would seek for a data recovery service. Issues with those is that they are expensive. Have you tried to resurrect your phone at least to a point of recovering the data?

@oldturkey03 It’s probably tied to the CPU so you’d need to transfer the CPU and flash chip, or repair the board. And if the CPU is dead, the data is gone.
